A High-Society Rendezvous: Sporting Excellence, Elegant Luxury Cars and Extraordinary PhilanthropyThe Maybach luxury automobile brand has once again been part of the Polo World Cup on Snow in St. Moritz, the most prestigious winter polo tournament worldwide. From January 29 to February 1, 2009, the traditional winter polo event united exclusive sporting action with savoir vivre accented by extraordinary luxury automobiles in a class of their own. |
Heading The Maybach brand invited the Wilhelm & Karl Maybach Foundation to present the current status of its projects and to connect with Maybach owners from Europe and the US. On January 31 Ulrich Schmid-Maybach, Maybach Foundation founder and president, presented the Post-Apartheid Role Model Project, the Foundation's newest, during the “tea time” in the Kempinski Hotel in St. Moritz. Through this project, the Argentinian professional polo player Federico Bachmann mentors Sbu Duma, an exceptionally talented South African with a very modest background, on his way to becoming a professional polo player. The presentation was well received by Maybach owners as well as by the polo press representatives that attended. Federico Bachmann, who happened to also be an active player for the Maybach Team at the polo tournament in St. Moritz, is Sbu Duma’s lead mentor and is fully dedicated to the concept of mentoring because he greatly benefitted from being mentored earlier in his own career. He talked to the guests about the wonderful experience to help Sbu to develop his talent, overcome the adversity he faces, and to introduce him to the network that is relevant for his career so that he can become a role model to other young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Maybach Foundation members and friends participating in the event in St. Moritz enjoyed a weekend full of exciting activities, great sports and wonderful weather in the beautiful Engadin.
